What's New in MemoLock 2: Your Notes, Truly Encrypted

MemoLock 2 is available on Google Play (current version: 2.1.0). Here is what changed since version 1, plainly.

Encryption on Your Phone (2.0)

  • The memo database is encrypted with SQLCipher (AES-256).
  • Photos and voice notes are encrypted too (AES-256-GCM).
  • The encryption key is random and protected by your phone's Android Keystore.
  • Existing notes are encrypted automatically when you update.

  • One honest limit: the key is not derived from your code. Your code (or fingerprint) controls access to the app, and the Android Keystore protects the key.

    Encrypted Backup (2.0)

  • Settings > Backup saves the whole vault (memos, photos, voice notes, settings) into one file, encrypted with a password you choose.
  • You decide where the file goes, and you can restore it on another phone.
  • Shared memos (.memo files) are protected by a password by default.
  • MemoLock stays out of Google backup on purpose: your backup is your own encrypted file.

  • Better Search (2.0)

  • Full-text search also finds task lists and tags, with or without accents.

  • Stronger Unlocking (2.1)

  • Fingerprint unlock now uses Android strong biometrics. If you used it before, turn it back on once.
  • A fingerprint can no longer reset your code: choose a secret question instead.
  • Settings > Security lets you change your code and your secret question.

  • Reliable Reminders (2.1)

  • Reminders are rescheduled after a restart, a time or time zone change, or an app update.
  • Notifications have "Done" and "Snooze 1 h" buttons, and show only the memo's title, or a neutral text.
  • On a new install, the daily "Don't forget your memos" reminder is offered instead of being switched on by default.

  • Still True

  • No Internet permission: MemoLock cannot send anything on its own.
  • No account, no ads, no analytics.

  • Details are in the privacy policy.
